Breaking tasks down

When a step is still too big

Split one stubborn step into two to four smaller ones, right where you are stuck.

Sometimes the breakdown is right and you still cannot move. “Call the dentist” is one step, and it is still a wall. That is not a failure of willpower. It is a step that was sized wrong for today.

So Molehill lets you cut any single step down further. The step you split disappears and two to four smaller ones take its place, in order, right where it was.

  1. 01

Find the step you cannot start

It can be the hero step on Today, the step in front of you in Focus mode, or any step inside a task in the Library.

  2. 02

    Choose Make it smaller

On Today and in Focus it is a button under the step. In Task Detail, swipe the step and pick it from the actions.

  3. 03

    Read the smaller pieces

Molehill proposes two to four concrete replacements with their own time estimates.

  4. 04

    Use them, or try again

Accept the split and it replaces the original step, or ask for another pass if the pieces still feel too large.

Task breakdown tells you what to do. This is the move that gets you started, and it is the one thing most task apps leave out.
