The Warmth Ring
A ring that cools gently instead of a red badge that tells you that you failed someone.
Each person has a ring around their avatar. It is full and warm just after you have been in touch, and it cools gradually as time passes relative to their cadence.
That is the whole mechanic, and the choices in it are deliberate. There is no red overdue state, no number of days you are late, and no completion percentage for a friendship.
