Flatten the page
Press the book open. Curved text near the spine is the most common reason a scan comes back wrong.

Get even light
Avoid a hard shadow across the middle of the page.

One page at a time, edge to edge.

Read the ingredients before you save. A misread quantity is the failure mode that matters most in a kitchen.
